The Periphera project ran from January 1996 till December 1998. Periphera was co-ordinated by the London Borough of Islington and had several partners in Ireland, the Netherlands, Belgium and the United Kingdom.
What is Periphera? |
Across the European Union there are many groups that are socially marginalised and find themselves disadvantaged in the labour market. Groups such as disabled people, those living in remote rural areas, people living in deprived urban communities, ethnic minorities and refugees all find it difficult to find jobs. |
The new and developing technologies of Teleworking potentially offer such groups new ways to access the labour market. Periphera was a project funded by the European Union under its Telematics for Urban and Rural Areas programme, which is exploring ways to help these social marginalised groups to adapt and use these new technologies.
