East Clare
East Clare Telecottage was launched in 1991 in rural Ireland and provides telematics access to people form the rural area and to immigrants who have settled in the area to conduct business from a rural location. Operating as part of an employee owned business, the Telecottage provides courses, carries out contract work, and provides drop-in to telematic facilities. A translation service is now in operation with native speakers of English, Irish, French, Italian, German, Dutch, Spanish , Danish, Czech, Bulgarian, Russian, Japanese, Norwegian and Swedish. The East Clare Telecottage now hosts the Clare Telematics Application Site and will continue to exploit the site to develop new lines of employment opportunity for local people, including the customer call centre, and a remote translation agency.
Periphera Actions:
- A customer call centre was implemented to enable new work opportunities from a remote rural area using technologies which allow economic but small scale usage. The exploitation was incremental from the pilot phase and progressively developed to a full scale demonstrator now ready for commercial exploitation by teleworkers in East Clare.
