Magherafelt
Workspace is a community based economic regeneration organisation formed in 1984 and based at Magherafelt in Northern Ireland. Its main objective is to inject new life into this rural community by combating the economic and unemployment problems which the local area faces.
It offers a wide range of accredited training courses to young school leavers and unemployed adults across a wide subject area including business administration and information technology. Courses range from pre vocational through to NVQ level III.
Workspace also offers a distance vocational qualification in information technology to those with a severe disability. Training is delivered via teletraining methods. A small teleworking operation has also been established which has helped to create employment opportunities for those people who have been trained.
Other projects include a simulated business which has been developed and which trades with other similar companies across Europe. It provides the opportunity for returners to the labour market to acquire skills and experience in a realistic and safe manner before seeking mainstream employment.
Periphera Actions:
