Hoensbroek
FASTT is a relatively small organisation which is an independent part of the Allardsoog Hunneschans group based in Hoensbroek a deprived area in the Netherlands. FASTT as a Dutch acronym stands for Flexible Labour and Education through Telework and Telelearning. The organization itself is the result of an initiative led by the Province of Limburg. The FASTT agency has developed strategies for supporting disabled people with marketable abilities and skills. Flexible means of working and training have been developed to enable people to enter the labour market, and to become socially integrated.
Having successfully applied techniques and training in telematics for administrative working, FASTT is now working in the area of teleworking and telematics. Telematics tools for new ways of working and for networking are rapidly emerging, and FASTT recognises the potential of this technology to support people marginalised through disability. The aim, however, is not the development of rehabilitation technology, since that is the province of other specialist agencies, but to investigate the application of mainstream technology for the exploitation of employment opportunities by an important excluded group of citizens.
Periphera Actions:
- Within an existing training initiative for disabled people an extended training programme was developed to enable design, implementation and management of Web servers and sites. Starting with a pilot phase, the selected trainees began developing projects for local companies and then developed that activity into a demonstrator as preparation for an exploitation activity allowing a high level of autonomy for disabled groups exploring work opportunities through telematics exploitation. This work centre continues now in the same location and operates as ATRIUM b.v. (contact below)
